Something happened on college Facebook pages tonight. Someone had questioning the “thank you” banner that been made by student’s representative counsel committee. Before i made any judgement, let me talk about “right” as her question are mainly about right.
As a student from 2 different colleges, i have my own understanding about this so called student-right. Allowed me to use the terms in Malay which is “hak”. There are to types of “right” according to what i understand. “Hak mutlak” (definite right) and “hak bersyarat” (conditional right).
Hak mutlak is something that is totally belong to you. You own it and can do anything with it. As an example, something that you buy with your own money. Hak bersyarat in the other hand is different story. It is our right to have that thing, service or facilities but, under certain extend. In the college for an example, classroom, library, gym, sports facilities, and in this case, common room should be provided by the college for us as our right to have all of these facilities. You can borrow all the books in the library, there are few rules such as you should returned the books at the given time without any damages or you will be fined. In the case of common room, college provide the facilities so that student can do discussion, group work etc. But, the management can take back the facilities if they think student misused it.
So, did it hurt anyone for the effort of “thank you” banner? No. Is it wrong to ask a question? No. Did questioning people’s effort on good cause is wrong? I leave that to you (reader of this blog, if any).
As for me, i am glad that i got here in IPBA. Seriously.
P/S : it is been a long time since i wrote post like this.
